The short version

Monster Arcade is a static website. There is no application server, no database and no user accounts. We do not ask for your name, your email address or any other personal information, and there is nowhere on this site where you could give it to us even if you wanted to.

The only data the site creates is a small amount of gameplay information stored in your own browser using localStorage. It never leaves your device and we have no way to read it.

Last reviewed: this policy is kept current with what the site actually does. If a third-party service is ever added, this page changes before the service goes live, not after.

What is stored in your browser

When you use the site, the following may be written to localStorage on your device under keys beginning ma::

WhatWhyExample
FavouritesSo your saved games are there next timeA list of game identifiers such as monster-dash
Recently playedTo build your recently played and most-played listsGame identifier, timestamp and a play counter
Best scoresSo the game can show your personal bestA number per game per metric, e.g. best distance
Sound preferenceSo the site remembers whether you muted ittrue or false
Reduced-motion preferenceSo the site respects your choicetrue or false

That is the complete list. No identifiers, no profiles, no behavioural history beyond the play counters described above, and nothing that could identify you as a person.

You can delete all of it at any time, either by clearing site data in your browser or with the button on the cookie and storage policy page.

What we cannot collect

Because there is no server component, we genuinely cannot do the following, regardless of whether we wanted to:

  • Link a score, a favourite or a play history to a person or a device across sessions.
  • See which games you play, how long you play them, or how well you do.
  • Build a profile, a segment or an audience from your behaviour on this site.
  • Send you anything, since we hold no contact details.

Our hosting provider will, like all web hosts, process standard server request logs — the IP address, user agent and requested URL that any web request necessarily includes. We do not have access to these as an analytics product and we do not use them to build profiles.

Cookies

Monster Arcade sets no cookies of its own. None. The site's features are built on localStorage, which is a different mechanism: it is not transmitted with requests, so it cannot be used for tracking across sites.

This is covered in more detail, including the difference between the two technologies, in the cookie and storage policy.

Advertising

This site is designed to be supported by display advertising, and the advertising containers you may see are currently empty placeholders. If and when a third-party ad network such as Google AdSense is enabled on this site, that network will be able to set its own cookies or similar identifiers in your browser and may use them to serve personalised advertising.

We are stating this in advance because it would be a material change to what happens on this site. When it happens, this policy and the cookie policy will be updated to name the provider, describe what it sets, and link to its own privacy information — and where consent is legally required, a working consent mechanism will be presented before any such identifiers are set.

We will not pretend a service is absent when it is present, and we will not describe one as present when it is not. Right now, it is not.

Children

Monster Arcade is a general-audience site. The games avoid gore and disturbing imagery in favour of a stylised arcade look, and there is nothing to buy anywhere on the site.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect personal information at all. If advertising is enabled in future, the ad network's own policies regarding children's data will apply and will be described here.

Your rights

Data protection law gives you rights over personal data held about you — access, correction, deletion, objection and portability among them.

In our case there is an unusual answer: we hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to disclose, correct or delete. The gameplay data described above is held by your browser, under your control, and you can erase it yourself at any time.

If you believe we hold data about you, or you have a question about any of this, email hello@monsterarcade.xyz.

Some articles link to external websites. Once you follow such a link you are on someone else's site, governed by their privacy policy rather than ours. We have no control over those sites and no visibility into what they do.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes first. We will not add a tracking or advertising service and update the policy afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Do you use cookies?

No. Monster Arcade sets no cookies of its own. Favourites, scores and preferences use localStorage, which is not transmitted with requests and cannot be used for cross-site tracking.

Can you see my scores?

No. Scores are written to your browser's localStorage and never sent anywhere. We have no server that could receive them.

What happens if you add advertising?

An ad network would be able to set its own cookies or identifiers. This policy and the cookie policy would be updated to name the provider before that happens, and a consent mechanism would be presented where it is legally required.

How do I delete what the site has stored?

Clear site data in your browser, or use the clear-data button on the cookie and storage policy page.
